Urinary Frequency

What is urinary frequency?

Urinary frequency is defined as urinating greater than eight (8) times per day and/or urinating more frequently than every two (2) hours, and getting up to urinate more than one (1) time at night.

Frequency can be caused by an overactive bladder muscle, or by over activation of pelvic muscles and nerves. This leads to the body telling our brain that the bladder is full, even if it isn't. Certain behaviors and habits, as well as certain foods can play a role in urinary frequency.

How can pelvic floor PT help with managing symptoms of urinary frequency?

Pelvic floor therapy aims to address muscle and joint tension that could be causing over activation of the bladder, pelvic floor musculature, and/or pelvic nerves.

Pelvic floor therapists provide hand-on manual treatments, individualized exercises and discuss lifestyle modifications in order to reduce urgency and allow you to improve your activity level, with little to no symptoms.
